De Duyfkenschool is in 2008 als Nederlandse stichting opgericht door een aantal mensen die zagen dat er behoefte was aan Nederlandstalig onderwijs in Brisbane. De school is vernoemd naar het schip “De Duyfken”, het eerste Europese schip dat in Australië is aangekomen. De Duyfkenschool heeft geen winstoogmerk. De stichting wordt geleid door het bestuur. De lessen worden gegeven door leerkrachten, die in dienst zijn van de stichting. Het bestuur heeft de organisatie van de dagelijkse gang van zaken uitbesteed aan de directeur.
The Duyfkenschool was founded in 2008 as a Dutch foundation by a group of inviduals who saw a need for Dutch-language education in Brisbane. The school is named after ‘Duyfken’, the first European ship to make landfall on the Australian coast. The Duyfkenschool is a not-for-profit organisation, and the foundation is led by the school board. Lessons are taught by teachers employed by the foundation. Day to day management of the school has been delegated by the board to the school’s director.
